To Know Him is to Loathe Him

Lana Clarkson "I think," LANA CLARKSON said at the start of 2003, "that I will act till I die! God willing, this is the year it will happen." It did...and now rock legend Phil Spector is on trial for her murder (photo).

Spector first found fame by borrowing the inscription on his father's tombstone to write "To Know Him Is To Love Him," the 1958 hit for his group The Teddy Bears. But ever since, he's been no picnic...and one of the trial's opening witnesses, Joan Rivers' former personal assistant Dorothy Melvin claimed that Spector smacked her in the head with a gun in 1993 and sneered, "Take your fucking clothes off." more »

Character Assassination

Lana Clarkson First off, let me apologize for the recent blog inactivity--Mrs. Sleuth and I have just returned from "a figure finding mission" all around South America! And just in time for the start of the Phil Spector murder trial--the first televised courtroom spectacle since O.J.! And, as in that case, the beautiful blonde victim is about to get slimed. more »

Updating the Icons

Yvonne DeCarlo"I would really love an older man who worships me, kisses my every footstep," wished Emmanuelle originator SYLVIA KRISTEL-- one of the "Time Bandit" icons we'll be updating in the next issue of CELEBRITY SLEUTH Magazine, "Women of Fantasy 16," on newsstands nationwide in early April. "I want the old story of the prince on the white horse."

Well, she got the age and the horse parts right: Reached at her home in Amsterdam, the 54-year-old Sylvia recounts her "torrid 5-year affair" (photo) with 10 years older and "hung like a horse" Ian McShane, now known best as profane Al Swearengen on HBO's gritty western Deadwood (photo). more »

Gilding the 'Lily'

Yvonne DeCarlo "The Munsters will live forever," a TV critic predicted of the '60s sitcom in the early '80s. And who doubted it... after all, they were vampires. Alas, it was "only make believe," as luscious Lily Munster-- embodied by an actress once dubbed, "The Most Beautiful Girl in the World," Yvonne De Carlo-- has passed away at age 84 {or so the press would have us believe, (photo)}. Well, at least Herman works in a funeral home... more »

Coming Soon: "Hot Tips!"

Yvonne DeCarloA "Lifelong Reader" in upstate Washington once called yours truly "The Maharishi of Naked Celebs" {by George!}, though I suspect "Yogi Bare" might be more apt. In any case, my mystic powers weren't enough to persuade curvy KIRA REED to pose for our very next issue, "HOT TIPS: Sleuth Selects the World's Best Nipples!" more »

Cyber Sleuth

"Please allow me to introduce myself, I'm a man of wealth and taste," Mick Jagger began the Rolling Stones' classic Sympathy for the Devil. "I've been around for a long, long year... Hope you guess my name."

Not likely, since I began CELEBRITY SLEUTH magazine 22 years ago-- when some of you now of legal drinking age weren't even born!-- as a "mild-mannered Government speechwriter by night, and Famous Shamus by night." As a modern-day Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hide, I "sleuthed out" all the facts (and figures) regarding the Rich and Shameless-- pioneering a genre that spawned such Internet icons as Mr. Skin and Uncle Scoopy. And now it's my turn to boldly trek (with a mission) into cyperspace-- where "no man had gone before" me. more »
